'Good luck with the job hunt, I hope we've helped'

I was really inspired by Sarah Harris’s determination to stand out from the crowd, and she gave some really useful tips on making sure that even if you feel like a needle in a haystack, you become the first thing prospective employers see when they start sifting through applications.

Once you’ve got past that hurdle, we’ve given you a raft of information on how to face the dreaded interview with confidence – and impress.  There are lots of articles on interview success, so don’t just dust down your CV, spring clean your approach to being in the hotseat this year too.

On Wednesday, our weekly webchat on this site at 1pm was career and job advice oriented, and lots of nurses joined us to share how to get the best work experience and how to equip themselves with more knowledge and expertise to face the employee market.

What was interesting about that webchat was seeing how certain nurses in certain disciplines find it hard to return to work flexibly after having children, or indeed find a job. Bear in mind that if you are returning to work after having maternity pay, or indeed have children under 16, your employer must consider your request to work flexibly.
