Nurse consultant joins London hospice in community role

A well-known hospice in east London has appointed its second nurse consultant to boost access to palliative care in community settings.

Nigel Dodds has been appointed nurse consultant for the community palliative care team at St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney.

Prior to joining St Joseph’s, Mr Dodds worked as advanced nurse practitioner at St Christopher’s Hospice in south London.

He will lead a large team of clinical nurse specialists caring for people in their own homes in City and Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham.

Speaking on his new role, Mr Dodds said: “We need to continue reaching out to more people in our local boroughs and working with our colleagues in community and primary health care to ensure all those who need end of life care receive it in the place of their choice at the right time”.

Meanwhile, Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice has launched a new video highlighting how it helps local people and the wide range of care and support services it provides.

The film, called Quality Care Where It Counts, includes short testimonials of people talking about their experience of the hospice.
