Trust offers staff £200 to ‘recommend a friend’ for a nurse job
A Cambridgeshire trust has launched a new incentive scheme where its employees can recommend a staff nurse for a post and be rewarded if they are successfully recruited.
The scheme gives permanent staff the opportunity to “get involved” in its nurse recruitment campaign and recommend “dedicated and talented” individuals, according to Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
If successful, the member of staff will receive a £200 introduction fee and then an additional £150 if the person they recommend stays with the trust for 12 months.
In addition, the new member of staff receives £100 after completing 12 months’ employment, under the scheme which was launched at the end of May.
The trust said it would also be holding a recruitment roadshow targeted at qualified theatre and anaesthetic practitioners on 18 June and 21 June.
As previously reported by Nursing Times, the trust began seeking to recruit nearly 150 extra nurses in February to try and reduce its reliance on agency staff.
The trust currently employs around 1,000 nurses and midwives and said it was looking to recruit a further 140 qualified nurses to reduce its use of agency nursing staff.
Speaking on the trust’s new incentive scheme, interim director of workforce and organisational developmen Ken Hutchinson said: “Our existing staff are being asked to fly the flag for the trust and let their nursing colleagues from around the area know that we have some nursing vacancies available.”
He added: “At Peterborough City Hospital we can offer a very modern building and state of the art equipment, complete with fantastic learning facilities, which we hope will encourage more excellent nursing staff to join us.”
