What was it like?

Adult Nursing Practice: Using evidence in care enables today’s students and newly qualified nurses develop the knowledge and skills they need to deliver, and lead care tomorrow. Reflecting the principles of evidence-based care in line with the current NMC competencies, this textbook helps students learn to manage patients with common conditions and fundamental health needs so they can provide the best possible evidence-based care. Written and edited by leading nurses from practice, education and research, it focuses on common diseases, fundamental health needs, and symptoms that nurses encounter in daily practice. Conditions are clearly explained so that the causes of ill health are easily understood. Every chapter covers pathophysiology, indicates the key priorities for nursing assessment and discusses “what the evidence says” before considering nursing management options.

What were the highlights? 

Well written and presented, allowing the reader to draw information from tables, charts, text, pictures and more. There is policy and case studies, no student should ever be stuck for an answer. Actually no practitioner would be stuck for an answer if they had this book as it come with online support in the form of an Online Resource Centre, via the use of the access codes in the front of the book.

Strengths & weaknesses:

WOW!!! This book is fab. It has been many years since I completed my training and I have never before picked up a book that made me want to get back out there delivering care like this one does. This book I am keeping hold of. It has made me want to complete new study or start nursing patients again, just so that I can read and learn new concepts and ways of working as detailed in this text.

Who should read it?

This is essential reading for student nurses, newly qualified, mentors, practice teachers and even the “time hardened Professional Nurse”, as all would benefit from this clean, clear and concise learning resource.  It is packed with over 115 illustrations and lots of features to bring the subject to life and make learning easier, for any practitioner picking this text up.
