Nurses star in infection control campaign

Two nurses from Leicester’s Hospitals are starring in an infection prevention and control campaign, led by NHS East Midlands.

Paula Blanchard, a sister in the emergency decisions unit at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, and Precious Chigodha, a nurse on ward 15 at the General Hospital, appear on window stickers to promote the latest instalment of the “Hand in Hand, fighting infections together” campaign.

The nurses will be joining the trust’s infection prevention and control team to encourage patients and visitors to take part in a true or false quiz on an arcade machine.

Paula said: “I was keen to take part in the campaign to see if I can help rectify any misconceptions that the public may have about infection prevention and control in our hospitals.”

Susan Davey, infection prevention and control nurse at Leicester’s Hospitals, said: “There is a lot of confusion around the spread of infection and the need for antibiotics and we want to give people the opportunity to find out more and ask us questions.”
