Midwives urged to discuss anti-depressant use with patients
Midwives have been encouraged to ask pregnant women about their use of anti-depressants, particularly in the later stages of pregnancy, because there could be a link with pulmonary hypertension in their newborn babies.
Guidance from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors can cause the problems.
Midwives and other healthcare professionals are advised to observe babies exposed to these drugs to be closely observed after birth.
