Nurse research projects shortlisted for RCN award

The Royal College of Nursing Research Society announced the shortlist for the Akinsanya Award 2010 for Innovation in Doctoral Studies in Nursing.

The shortlist includes research on psychosocial factors that can exacerbate severe asthma, the psychosocial impact of frailty on people over 85, postoperative epidural analgesia for major abdominal surgery, and the living experiences of younger women with cancer of the vulva.

The winner will be announced in May at the International Nursing Research Conference in Newcastle.

Manchester Metropolitan University professor of nursing Carol Haigh, chair of this year’s judging panel, said the standards of submissions were “excellent”.

She said: “Once again, the standard of submissions was excellent making it a difficult job for the shortlisting panel.

“These outstanding researchers are clearly aware of the contribution nursing knowledge can have on improving outcomes for patients and their families.”

The winning researcher will receive £250.
