Ultrasound may benefit pressure ulcer healing

Ultrasound used alongside standard wound treatment could promote healing of pressure ulcers. This is the result of a pilot study reported in the Journal of Wound Care.

The study involved five patients with seven stage III or IV ulcers. The ulcers were assigned to a treatment or control group. The results identified that ulcers treated with ultrasound decreased in size compared to the control group.

The authors suggest that larger studies are required to explore the mechanism and effectiveness of ultrasound treatment for pressure ulcers.
