National Junior Leadership Academy wins Teaching Innovation of the Year

The National Junior Leadership Academy has grabbed the Teaching Innovation of the Year award at the Student Nursing Times Awards 2014 this month.

The scheme, led by Professor Laura Serrant from the University of Wolverhampton,  along with Stacy Johnson and Dr Aru Narayanasamy from the University of Nottingham, attracted more than 100 applications from students. The 25 students selected were chosen to take part in a year-long pilot scheme which included mentoring, internships and project work and also had the chance to secure placements with mentors in senior positions.

Professor Serrant said that she was delighted that the Academy got this recognition, and said: “The initiative has received very positive feedback from all concerned and has helped talented nurses develop their leadership skills early in their careers. We hope it will continue in the future.”
