  • Comment on: Does access to contraception raise teenage pregnancy rates?

    Viv Crouch's comment 26-Mar-2009 11:43 pm

The teenage pregnancy rates have not gone up since the beginning of the strategy, there has been a small rise in the latest figures. As a nurse I am fully aware of my professional responsibilities and I am also sure that offering young people a full sexual health service where they are will help to lower the rates of teen pregnancy' I am in favour of providing sexual health services to young people where they are, which could be at school or at other venues in the community. It is only recently that some schools have allowed the provisionof sexual health services on site and therefore we are unable to assess how successful this will be in lowering the rates. STI education is really important in helping to ensure that young people are aware of safer sex. Nurses who work with young people's sexual health work with integrity which includes encouraging young people to talk and involve their parents. I keep myself up to date as a nurse working in the field of sexual health and disagree with many of the findings of David Paton I would like to know how he collects his information from the MANY nurses he speaks about.
