Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHS£1m CT scanner for North West hospital
Blackpool Victoria Hospital has become the first non-teaching hospital in the North West to benefit from a new £1m CT scanner.
The advanced scanner uses computer and X-rays technology to take cross-sections of the body four times faster than a standard CT.
The next generation scanner produces 64-slice scans within seconds, enabling higher quality images for diagnosis.
Not only will patients on the Fylde coast benefit by having a reduced hospital stay, they will also be exposed to less radiation during scanning, improving the safety of the process.
A major benefit of the scanner is that it enables non-invasive cardiac imaging, which will help people with heart conditions.
Dr Graham Hoadley, consultant radiologist at the hospital, said: ‘This CT scanner will bring our service up to full capacity and with the new applications available with this technology will enable us to develop more and better services for patients.”
The delivery of the CT scanner is the first in a number of developments at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital set out to boost patient care, with a new MRI scanner also planned for later this year.
