West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust is setting up a temporary unit in Birmingham to treat patients with minor injuries and illnesses during the Bank Holiday weekend.
First launched in 2007, the move is aimed at reducing admissions to the accident and emergency departments in hospitals.
The unit will be stationed on Broad Street on Friday and Saturday night.
Group station manager at Henrietta Street ambulance station, Roy Russon, said: ‘The temporary minor injuries unit is now well known on Broad Street by local police officers and staff at nearby bars, clubs and restaurants and has proven to be successful by treating over 300 patients who would have otherwise gone to A&E.
‘We will be providing this alternative locally based unit again during both bank holiday weekends in May to deal with those people who require medical treatment, but don’t necessarily require an emergency service, ultimately easing the pressure on hospitals and the ambulance service.’
