Christie nurses protest over lost hospital funds
Nurses from Manchester’s Christie Hospital joined with patients and MPs last week in a march on Whitehall.
Supporters and staff from the world-famous cancer centre staged the rally to call for the return of the £6.5m, which was wiped from The Christie NHS Foundation Trust’s supporting charity, the Christie Charity, in the Icelandic banking crisis.
The government’s Financial Services Compensation Scheme has so far refused to refund the money lost when the KSF bank collapsed, stating that it can only reimburse individuals or small investors.
The campaigners, who are calling on Prime Minister Gordon Brown to intervene, delivered a 100,000 signature petition to 10 Downing Street last week.
