Ex to stand trial for nurse murder

A provisional trial date has been set for a paramedic accused of murdering a nurse.

Jonathan Vass, 30, is alleged to have stabbed ex-girlfriend Jane Clough, 26, as she returned to her car after she finished a work shift.

Vass, of Conway Drive, Preston, Lancashire, will face trial on January 12 next year.

Wearing a blue T-shirt and blue trousers, he spoke only to confirm his name at a preliminary hearing at Preston Crown Court.

Members of Miss Clough’s family were in the public gallery.

The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a scheduled plea hearing on October 11 at the same court.

Miss Clough, of Barrowford, Nelson, Lancashire, was attacked in the staff car park of Blackpool Victoria Hospital on Sunday night.

The mother-of-one was rushed to the Accident and Emergency unit where she worked, just 100 yards away.

Her colleagues battled in vain to save her.

A post-mortem examination showed she died from multiple stab wounds.
