MHRA recalls more than one hundred batches of drugs
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a class two medicines recall of more than one hundred batches of drugs after they were exposed to unsatisfactory conditions during shipment.
The medicines, manufactured by Karib Kemi Pharm Ltd, include batches of amoxicillin, atenolol, ciprofloxacin and ranitidine tablets that were shipped to the UK from India.
According to the agency, temperature problems during shipment could result in the drugs deteriorating over time, and all unexpired stock of the affected batches should be quarantined and returned to the manufacturer.
However, the MHRA stressed that this is only a precautionary measure as there is no evidence to suggest that the medicines are not safe for patient use.
Only specific batches of the drugs contained in the alert need to be returned as batches which have been transported by air are not affected, they added.
