Targets to reduce NHS waiting times for scans and therapy in Wales are being met, according to figures released by the Assembly Government.
By the end of March there were 2,022 people fewer waiting up to eight weeks for tests such as an MRI scan or endoscopy than there were the previous month. The waiting times for therapies such as physiotherapy and speech and language therapy were no longer than 14 weeks.
The figures show that 35,445 people remained on therapy waiting lists, while more than 41,000 people were waiting up to eight weeks for diagnostic scans.
Health minister Edwina Hart said: ‘I would like to thank staff for their hard work in driving down waiting times.
‘Thanks to the Assembly Government’s investment in more staff, new buildings and equipment, the NHS is delivering for patients.’
She added that swifter access to diagnostic scans and therapy services was ‘a key component of the care and support provided to patients, and in the identification of their condition, helping to inform the course of treatment’.
