A nurse and amateur stuntman has broken the world record for running while on fire.
Keith Malcolm, originally from Aberdeen but who now lives and work in Hampshire, managed to 259ft, beating the previous fire-run record of 227ft.
‘It was absolutely awesome. I managed it in 17 seconds and was running flat-out. I really did not want to hang around,’ he said.
Mr Malcolm wore eight layers of protective clothing, including four layers of fireproof undergarments, a Formula One fireproof jacket and three overalls. He also donned three fire hoods and a helmet and coated himself in special protective ‘stunt gel’.
Mr Malcolm, who was raising money for Cancer Research UK, set the new record at the Alton & North East Hampshire Agricultural Show on 5 July.
Mr Malcolm’s wife, Anna-Marie, who is also a nurse, added: ‘It was certainly nerve wracking for me.’
