Retrieval teams decrease child mortality
The use of specialist retrieval teams to transport sick children to paediatric intensive care units is associated with reduced mortality, according to UK research published online in The Lancet.
The research, by Great Ormond Street Hospital Trust, covered 57,997 admissions to 29 PICUs over four years in England and Wales.
Use of a specialist retrieval team for transfer was associated with improved survival, reducing mortality by 42% compared with non-specialist team transfers.
