Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHSUnison and Great Ormond Street hospital launch pilot to make the NHS 'green'
Unison has launched a joint project with Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust aimed at improving at making the NHS more green and environmentally friendly.
The project will bring trade unions and hospital management together to develop training for workplace environmental representatives and organising awareness raising activities to spread the green message.
It is one of 15 projects funded by the TUC looking into environmental performance, such as waste management and transport, as well as carbon management.
Learning from project will be turned into best practice guidance that can be spread throughout the health service.
The Great Ormond Street project is the first of the projects, which will be run at organisations including Leicester City Council, United Utilities and the University of Brighton.
UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis said: ‘UNISON believes environmental sustainability has to be embedded into the values of our public services in the 21st century.
‘Out of necessity - and to be a positive force for change in society and the economy more widely. This project, and others like it, will set us on a course to achieving that.’
