Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHSWarning over defective batch of disposable polypectomy snares
The government’s medicines and healthcare products watchdog has urged health staff to return a defective batch of disposable polypectomy snares to the manufacturer.
According to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), there is a risk that snare loops on the affected batches could detach and fall into the patient’s stomach or alimentary canal.
An additional operation would then be required to remove the snares.
All staff responsible for the storage and uses of these devices, particularly those who work in supplies departments should check stock for affected devices.
Once any relevant unused devices have been quarantined, they should be returned to the manufacturer, ConMed for credit or replacement.
