Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHSWelsh assembly pledges £16.5m for hospital projects
Two hospital projects in Wales are to receive millions of pounds to revamp their services, the Welsh Assembly has announced.
A total of £16.5m will go towards building the Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff and developing a new emergency care centre for the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil.
The money, which has come from the Welsh Assembly’s strategic capital investment fund, will be split roughly equally between the two.
Commenting on the funding for new children’s hospital, health minister for Wales Edwina Hart said: “I visited the site earlier this year and gave the go ahead for enabling work to start so that construction can begin swiftly once final approval has been received on the plans.
“I am committed to this development which will significantly enhance the services on offer to children and young people in Wales,” she said.
Ms Hart added: “The new emergency care centre at Prince Charles Hospital will improve the emergency care for patients and staff, speed up treatment and provide a fast-track service for cardiac emergencies and GPs’ out-of-hours.”
