Attacks on NHS staff fall
Violence against NHS staff has fallen for the second year in a row, figures released by the NHS Security Management Service have shown.
There were 55, 709 physical assaults against health service staff in 2006/07, a drop of 5% on the 58,695 that occurred in the previous 12 months.
Attacks against staff in acute trusts and primary care both fell, however the number in mental health and learning disabilities was up 0.5% to 42,569.
The number of criminal sanctions against people who assaulted NHS staff rose marginally from 850 to 869.
