Calls for laws on formula advertising

MPs have called for laws to prevent private companies producing infant formula milk from undermining attempts to promote breastfeeding.

David Kidney, MP for Stafford, said the UK had yet to fully implement the World Health Organisation’s code on formula milk marketing.

Although government policy supports the code, it has yet to be backed by laws, said Mr Kidney.

‘Parents should be protected from partisan claims and should receive impartial advice and guidance,’ said Mr Kidney.
