Faulty defibrillators recalled

A medical device alert has been issued for an external defibrillator because of malfunctions that can prevent or delay the delivery of delivering a shock.

Manufacturer Welch Allyn is recalling its PIC 50 defibrillators to correct two malfunctions. Faulty devices sometimes display either a 'Defib Comm' or an 'ECG Comm' error message.

The company has advised that switching the device off and on again may clear the message.

The warning is an update of a previous alert issued in August.
