District nurse, one-time general secretary of the Community and District Nursing Association, Ann Keen became an MP in 1997 and a junior health minister in 2007.
She has had significant influence in the government, taking forward nursing and the profession’s concerns and is credited with influencing Gordon Brown to order the Prime Minister’s Commission on the Future of Nursing and Midwifery in 2009, the first major review of the professions for 30 years.

Unfortunately, Ann Keen did NOT do much for district nursing service. In fact the service is hardly recognizable since she was in power.Most PCTs are not training any new district nurses. She should be ashamed that she let the distict nurses down.
