Ian Bullock - for Services to Increasing the Effectiveness of Nursing
Ian Bullock, chief operating officer, National Clinical Guideline Centre
Ian has over 25 years experience in healthcare as a qualified nurse, teacher and researcher. His career focus has always been on ‘making a difference’, using education and research to improve the quality of patient care and experience.
Ian leads the NCGC, which develops clinical guidelines on behalf of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, producing recommendations for the NHS across primary and secondary care. This is the largest guideline development centre in the world with over 20 guidelines in development at once.
Ian believes nurses have a unique role to play in leading multidisciplinary initiatives like this. He has made a tremendous contribution to raising standards of care for patients nationwide, as well as to highlighting the importance of evidence-based care and the measurement of improvement, and in doing so has raised the profile of nursing at the highest level.
Ian is the Resuscitation Council (UK) executive lead for education, an associate fellow of the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and the School of Health and Social Studies at the University of Warwick. He was an advisor for the National Public Access Defibrillation Programme and Care of the Acutely Ill projects at the Department of Health.
