Innovative group launches cancer campaign
The voluntary sector group also aims to encourage earlier diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancer. It is independent from the NHS but has strong links with it, and will also be working with partners to improve the education of health workers and professionals.
The campaign, which covers Tees Valley, South Durham and North Yorkshire, has been launched at Middlesbrough’s Life Store.
At the launch in July free oral health checks were available, along with information on stopping smoking and prevention of these cancers, fundraising and many other events. Nurses, patients, consultants and the public attended the launch at the Life Store.
Mr Richard Wight, Group Chair and ENT consultant at James Cook, said: ‘We are delighted to launch the group at the Life Store and continuing our efforts to encourage patients to present at the earliest opportunity to local health professionals when symptoms arise that could represent head and neck cancer.’
