All community nurses should receive basic training in leg ulcer management, tissue viability nurse specialists have said.

Susan Knight, wound care specialist nurse who works at Buckinghamshire PCT, said: ‘Compression therapy is the gold standard for the treatment of venous leg ulcers but poor technique and application can lead to tissue damage. [Nurses] need to recognise the importance of tissue viability and how to get it right from the beginning.’
