Leg ulcer management training needs highlighted
Leg ulcers can become chronic and infected if not treated properly, delegates heard at the Primary Care Live conference in London this month.
Susan Knight, wound care specialist nurse who works at Buckinghamshire PCT, said: ‘Compression therapy is the gold standard for the treatment of venous leg ulcers but poor technique and application can lead to tissue damage. [Nurses] need to recognise the importance of tissue viability and how to get it right from the beginning.’
