A Lincolnshire mental health nurse with no previous sailing experience is to brave the Atlantic Ocean in a yacht race to raise money to provide sports facilities for people recovering from mental health problems.

Allison Harvey (pictured), a mental health nurse with North East Lincolnshire Care Trust Plus, will compete in the Clipper 09–10 World Yacht race. Departing from the Humber on 13 September 2009, competitors will cover 35,000 miles of oceans over 10 months.

Ms Harvey will compete in the final leg of the race – from Jamaica back to Hull – between May and July 2010.
