Former nurse implicated in MPs' expenses scandal
Former psychiatric nurse Jim Devine MP must stand down at the next general election following an investigation into his expenses.
Mr Devine was told by Labour Party officials’ yesterday that he could not carry on as Livingstone MP after being accused of claiming £2,326 for 66 metres of shelving for his constituency office.
He was also alleged to have claimed £2,156 for electrical work, using an invoice with an invalid VAT number and false address.
Mr Devine was instrumental in forcing through changes at the NMC after he secured a House of Commons adjournment debate last year that raised serious questions about the organisation’s management.
He was also formerly head of health at UNISON’s Scottish branch.
