Mid Staffordshire trust criticised for £1.3m redundancy payouts
A hospital trust that was heavily criticised by the government’s hospital watchdog for ‘appalling’ care that led to an estimated 400 deaths, has paid £1.3m in redundancy payments in the last three years, according to official data.
Figures obtained by the Liberal Democrats under the Freedom of Information Act show that payouts at Mid Staffordshire Hospital Trust included a total of £75,000 to members of its board.
Liberal Democrat shadow health secretary, Norman Lamb, said: ‘These figures are absolutely shocking.
‘They demonstrate how much money was being wasted getting rid of staff who were desperately needed, at a time when hundreds of people were dying because of inadequate care.’
