NHS worker warned over pornographic emails

A senior blood transfusion specialist was given a warning for sending pornographic emails to colleagues.

Roger Mattock, 54, admitted sending and receiving dozens of pornographic emails over six years while working at Harrogate and District foundation trust in North Yorkshire.

The transfusion manager told a misconduct hearing at the Health Professions Council in central London that he forwarded the emails to “fit in” with staff. He said it seemed to be part of the culture in his trust and the wider NHS.

The married father of three sent and received 89 inappropriate emails, kept an image of a naked woman in his desk drawer and pornographic magazines in his work locker.

The panel gave him a cautionary order after finding his fitness to practise had been impaired.

Martin Ryder, chairman of the panel, said Mr Mattock’s actions were a serious breach of the standards expected, but took into account the fact he “deeply regrets” his actions.

  • Huh? I don't get it. A nurse on nights puts her knickers on ebay for a laugh = sacked. This guy gets a slap on the wrist? Could the NHS BE anymore sexist!
