Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHSNMC chair appointed vice president of European Council of Nursing Regulators
Members of the European Council of Nursing Regulators (FEPI) have appointed Professor Tony Hazell as their new vice president.
Professor Tony Hazell, chair of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, is one member of a new six-strong executive board which is responsible for FEPI’s strategy.
Professor Hazell is the first lay member of FEPI’s Executive Board. He said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to play such an important part in shaping FEPI’s future.
“FEPI is the only organisation representing nursing regulators at EU level and is a vital vehicle through which the NMC advocates for patient safety internationally.
“During my term as vice president, I hope to help strengthen FEPI’s profile among the European Commission and the European Parliament, and to help FEPI communicate its messages among patients and health professionals across Europe.”
FEPI brings together nursing regulators from nine EU member states and accession countries, and is also joined through associate membership by regulators in Canada and the United States.
FEPI’s aims are to promote patient-focussed health professional regulation at the European level, and to raise awareness of patient and public safety considerations with respect to EU health and mobility policies.

I am appalled that any representative of such a dysfunctional and under performing organisation can represent nurses at such a level. the NMC is shown time and time again to be failing nurses and to have a poorly structured and inept management that it could justifiably be said to be unfit for purpose - and yet is seen as appropriate to represent nurses in Europe? It has to be a bit of a joke........?

I'm pleased that we in UK have a representative in Europe at this level, however, I am a little puzzled as to how the leader of a failing team can help abraod when the NMC has failed so miserably at home.
There appears to be two classes of Nurse - those that DO and those that DON't - so far the Don'ts are the winners when it comes to over inflated wages.
