Privatisation in the NHS is damaging patient care, warns report

The union Unite has called for an end to the ‘giant privatisation experiment’ in the NHS in a report, claiming it is damaging patient care.

‘The Patchwork Privatisation of Our Health Service - a special report’ highlights how private companies, encouraged by the government, are taking over the NHS.

It argues that the private companies have adverse knock-on effects for patients and staff pay, terms and conditions.

The report includes information about how members can fight back against the market system in the NHS.

It argues that costly private companies are diverting valuable public funding away from direct patient care.

Karen Reay, Unite’s national officer for health, said: ‘Reading this document should make anyone concerned about the future of NHS very angry indeed.’

‘The myth that private companies can provide better services than the NHS is a giant experiment based on a flawed ideology that is failing on a daily basis, while costing the taxpayer dearly.’
