RCN pays tribute to Sir Liam's public health legacy
The Royal College of Nursing has paid tribute to the “bold stance” of Sir Liam Donaldson during his tenure as chief medical officer for England.
Sir Liam, who has been chief medical officer since 1998, is due to step down in May.
RCN chief executive and general secretary Peter Carter said: “Sir Liam has done a tremendous job as chief medical officer, taking a bold stance on issues such as smoking in public places and restoring public confidence in the MMR vaccine.
He added: “More recently his work on swine flu has meant that the country is well-placed to act against the pandemic. Sir Liam’s position on public health issues has undoubtedly helped to save lives.
“We also welcomed Sir Liam’s strong stance on alcohol misuse and we look forward to building on this work with his successor. We wish Sir Liam well in his future endeavours,” said Mr Carter.

I do appreciate the work too of Sir Liam and of Peter Carter.
I do not know if they have commented about how a trust has expected nurses and doctors to take part in cleaning their hospital. Hopefully they will take measures to change this.
