Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHSReview investigates whether KSF can be simplified
A review of the Knowledge and Skills Framework NHS staff training scheme will investigate whether or not it can be simplified.
The objective is highlighted within the terms of reference for the forthcoming KSF review, seen by Nursing Times.
According to the document, the review will investigate ‘whether there are any trade-offs between simplification and/or reduction in detail that may reduce the barriers to implementation and the potential benefits of the KSF to staff and organisations.’
It will also analyse on ‘the barriers to effective implementation and usage and the actions that should be taken to make the KSF accessible and straightforward to managers and staff.’
The review will focus on England. A monitoring scheme for implementation of the KSF was abandoned in England.
KSF implementation continues to be monitored by health authorities in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Results from the 2008 NHS staff survey show that more than a third (36%) of staff in England have still not received a KSF appraisal.
The review is due to start in the autumn and due to finish by the end of the year, with findings published in 2010.
