Frank Bruno to discuss BME mental health services
Frank Bruno is to talk at a conference next week, where he will discuss his experiences as a black man using mental health services.
The former world champion boxer is speaking at the conference ‘Working with Ethnicity Race and Culture in Mental Health: Solutions Within Reach’, in London on Monday.
Mr Bruno was admitted to psychiatric hospital in 2003 and the handling of the story in the tabloid media caused a backlash from mental health professionals and the wider public.
Accompanying Mr Bruno will be Hari Sewell, who is helping develop the government’s New Horizons national mental health policy.
Mr Bruno said: ‘They’ll get the real deal from me about what I’ve been through and because of who I’ll be talking with I’ll be back using my phrase - know what I mean Hari?’
