Maternal affection improves emotional resilience
Maternal affection shown to babies can increase the child’s ability to cope with problems faced in later life, research has shown.
The US research found the higher the level of affection and attention shown to 8-month-old babies, the lower the anxiety levels the children displayed once they reached adulthood.
The babies who had been shown the greatest maternal warmth were found to have the least anxiety across all measures.
The study, published online in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, involved 482 subjects who were followed up at the age of 34.
