Nurses go the extra mile for hospices

Two nurses walked 40 miles in 16 hours last month to raise money for palliative care facilities in the North East, including the building of a new children’s hospice.

Community psychiatric nurse Bill Courtley (third from left) and student nurse Patricia Lovegrove (right) walked across the North York Moors on 22 May as part of the annual 40-mile Lyke Wake Walk.

They were raising money for the Grace House North East Children’s Hospice Appeal and St Benedict’s Hospice in Sunderland.

Mr Courtley and Ms Lovegrove, who both work for Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Trust, are pictured with the rest of their walking team arriving at the end of the walk in Ravenscar.
