Second-hand smoking linked to mental health problems

Second-hand smoke exposure is associated with psychological distress and risk of future psychiatric illness, according to researchers from University College London.

The study, which involved 5,560 non-smoking adults and 2,689 smokers without a history of mental illness, found people regularly exposed to passive smoking were 50 per cent more likely to experience psychological stress.

The authors measured levels of cotinine, which is found in saliva and can be used to measure levels of exposure to tobacco smoke, and compared them with survey results on mental health symptoms.

Smoking is indeed bad for the smoker's health and even for those innocent non-smokers. Whoa!

    Truly,
