Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHSMHRA warns over contaminated diet and slimming products banned by FDA
The MHRA has warned people to avoid diet and slimming products that have been recalled by the US Food and Drug Administration (FSA) but are still on sale in the UK.
These products have been found to contain undeclared, active pharmaceutical ingredients that could endanger the health of consumers.
They are medicines are sibutramine, a prescription only medicine which can cause high blood pressure, heart attacks or strokes and Phenytoin, an anti-seizure drug.
Bumetanide, a diuretic and Rimonabant, recently removed from the marketplace having been associated with increased risk of depression and suicidal thoughts, are also some of the ingredients found in the recalled products.
Products recalled include ProSlim Plus, 24 Hours Diet, Slim Waistline, Royal Slimming Formula and Zhen de Shou.
Some slimming products are available in the UK over the internet and in some retail outlets.
The MHRA advises consumers who have used any of these products to stop taking them and consult their health care professional immediately.
