Midwives appoint new leader

Professor Cathy Warwick has been appointed as the next general secretary of the Royal College of Midwives.

She currently holds the posts of divisional manager of women and children’s services and director of midwifery at Kings College Hospital Foundation Trust, London.

The college described her as having a ‘wealth of knowledge on day-to-day midwifery issues and retains a role as a practising clinical midwife’.

She will succeed the former incumbent Dame Karlene Davis in October.

Professor Warwick, who has also previously chaired the NMC’s statutory midwifery committee, said: ‘I consider it a great privilege to take over such a prestigious role, following in the footsteps of Dame Karlene. I look forward to working with and for the midwives of the UK to ensure that women get the very best possible care.’
