New community nurse degree for students in Essex

Student nurses who want to focus on working in the community are to be offered a new degree course in Essex.

From September, the University of Essex will offer a new Bachelor of Science degree designed for those who wish to make their career in nursing in the primary care sector.

The three-year, full-time course takes place at the university’s Southend campus and in a range of placements – working with nurses in a variety of settings including primary care, the independent sector and care of the elderly.

Course leader Sarah Lee said: ‘The programme is patient focused, service led and student centred. It has been developed as a result of consultation with service manager and nurses. If you are keen to become a health professional and want to shape the future of nursing, this course will help achieve these objectives.’
