New guide to ‘talking therapy’ issued by the Mental Health Foundation
A new guide that explains the different types of ‘talking therapy’ to people looking for psychological therapy has been published by the Mental Health Foundation.
Designed to help people decide which of the ‘talking therapies’ is right for them, ‘Talking therapies explained’ outlines what therapies are available – such as cognitive behavioural therapy and psychoanalysis – and how they work.
It also provides information on how therapists are accredited and regulated, and the organisations that list reputable therapists.
Celia Richardson, campaigns director at the Mental Health Foundation, said many people don’t know where to begin when trying to find a therapist, and that the guide will provide a ‘much needed helping hand for people lost in the fog’.
The guide can also be used by mental health professionals to advise patients on all the options available, she added.
A copy of the guide can be obtained by calling the Mental Health Foundation on 020 7803 110 or it can be downloaded from the charity's website.
