The ‘right investments’ are being made into the future of the NHS, the Prime Minister said on a visit to a leading hospital.
Gordon Brown, along with Health Secretary Andy Burnham, visited King’s College Hospital, south east London, to meet patients and staff.
He was shown around the Derek Mitchell Unit, which specialises in haematology and is using pioneering techniques to treat sufferers of blood cancers.
When asked about his plans for the NHS, Mr Brown said patients needed to be the focus, with “new rights” to see doctors at convenient times and for check-ups and treatments.
He said it was “about making the health service far more personal to people’s needs”, ensuring patient satisfaction and “giving people the security to know the health service is always there when they need it”.
He added that by getting the NHS right, the Government would be making “the right investment in the future of our country”.
