Social network keeps patients in touch with relatives
A social networking website designed specifically to help patients keep in contact with carers and relatives while they are in hospital is proving popular with nurses as well as their patients.
The Justvisiting.com website was set up as a social enterprise scheme with the support of NHS North East. It has been piloted at Gateshead Hospitals Foundation Trust since December.
Nurse and ward manager Elaine Shanks said: “We have had a very good response from patients. It is also helping staff, as nurses tend to spend time answering the ward phones and speaking to concerned family and friends looking for updates on their loved ones and passing on messages.”

Now that seems like an excellent idea to me... I work on a busy admissions unit and a decrease in the number of times we have to repeat ourselves to multiple relatives would make a significant difference to us.
It would be lovely though if the prices for using the bedside units were more realistic though....

sounds like a great idea but i hope there are sufficient safeguards in place to prevent the system and those who are are vulnerable from abuse
