Care tailored to individual cardiac patients’ needs and preferences can significantly lower their risk of dying within one year of discharge, according to research published online in the journal Health Services Research.
The US study, which looked at medical records and patient surveys for 1,800 older people admitted for myocardial infarction, found those who received the most patient-centred care had a 16 per cent lower chance of dying compared to other heart attack patients.
