Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHSFlorence Nightingale nursing school offers new post-grad diploma
A postgraduate diploma (PG Dip) in Nursing will be offered by the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery in September 2010.
The school is the only one of London’s top universities to offer the two year course. It will form part of the school’s pre-registration education programme, allowing graduates with relevant degrees and health care related experience to study at postgraduate level.
The PG Dip qualification comprises two-thirds of a Masters qualification. On completion of the diploma with registration, students can complete their full Masters in Nursing immediately at a later date.
On successful completion of the PG Dip graduates will become registered with the NMC, a professional qualification recognised across the world.
The school’s associate dean Professor Alison While said: “The PG Dip course will contribute to developing a world class nursing workforce and enable more early career nurses to go onto gain a Masters in nursing, which will not only benefit patient care but also provide a firm foundation for those seeking a clinical academic career in nursing.”

What is wrong with having a degree? Its time we made up our minds - do we want a vocation or a profession?? I think having an all degree profession in nursing is the way to go if we are to raise standards. Also it may stop the wrong people coming into the profession.
