Bowel disease linked to low bone density
Low bone mineral density is a common condition in children and teenagers with inflammatory bowel disease, according to a new study.
Researchers from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden found the condition was present in around half of the study’s 144 participants aged between six and 19 all of which had inflammatory bowel disease.
Disturbed development of bone mineral density in childhood and adolescence may increase the risk of osteoporosis in later life the report warns.
