American scientists have discovered new drugs that can protect nerve cells in mice from the affects of Parkinson’s disease.
Researchers at John Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore have found eight drugs able to block a protein, LRRK2, overactive in some Parkinson’s disease patients and which can lead to the disease.
The genetic causes of Parkinson’s disease have recently been identified and have the potential to be used for developing targeted therapies for sufferers, the research states.
